About Youth Counselling North Devon

Rosie Middleton - Qualified and registered Counsellor

Hi I'm Rosie, the face behind Youth Counselling North Devon. I offer Counselling  for Children, Teenagers and Young  Adults  aged 8 - 30 on a 1:1 basis.

My previous roles working with young people motivated me to become a Counsellor. During this time I found there was a huge lack in support available, often with long waiting lists due to the high demand.

I am extremely passionate about working with children and young people and they remain at the heart of everything I do.

Considering or committing to Therapy can be a huge step, one which should be recognised and supported. I believe that finding the right counsellor to suit each individual is important, which is why I like to have a 15 minute phone consultation session with parents/ caregivers, followed by a 1 hour face to face starter session with potential clients to see if young clients are happy to continue working together.

Young clients should feel supported and heard without judgement, and given a safe space to explore what’s going on for them. No issue is 'silly' or not a big deal'. If it’s impacting their day to day life and mental health, it’s something worth looking at.

Through my own experience of attending Counselling, I personally know how challenging it can be to sit down and talk to someone face to face.  So if this has been the case for you, I really do hear you. This is why I offer a range of services that are tailored to suit each individual, as I feel Counselling should be accessible to everyone.

How I Work

Each person that seeks Counselling will be looking for something different, so having a chat together first can be beneficial to see if what I offer will work for each individual. I will be open and honest about what I have to offer and there is no obligation to continue afterwards. This decision is and always should be young clients decision to make.

I am a qualified  Counsellor, registered with the BACP and hold a enhanced DBS check. I have a very person centred approach to the way I work, allowing clients to bring what they wish to each session, allowing us to focus on what feels important to them.

I offer a safe and confidential space where young clients can reflect and gain understanding of the issues they wish to explore . There will be no pressure to talk about issues they do not wish to discuss. I am not here to give advice or have all the answers, but I am here to support clients on their personal journey and to help support and gain understanding of the things going on in their lives.

Sometimes it can be hard for young clients to find the words for how they are feeling or what's going on for them. Creativity can be a great way to explore this in a less directive way and create opportunities for discussion.

Counselling can build on self-awareness and many other life skills to aid personal growth. The aim is to have the ability to utilise these skills, to continue supporting themselves when they finish their counselling journey.
